Configure Notelet to work exactly the way you want
Open Settings by right-clicking the Notelet menu bar icon and selecting Settings…. Changes are saved automatically. The Settings window uses a sidebar with sections: General, Appearance, Toolbar, Context Menu, Shelves, Categories, and About.
Show or hide the Dock icon. When disabled, Notelet behaves as a menu bar accessory app.
Automatically start Notelet when you log in to macOS.
Enable macOS spell checking in the editor. Misspelled words are underlined and offer right-click suggestions.
Select the dictionary used for spell checking.
Available: English (en), Nederlands (nl), Deutsch (de), Français (fr), Español (es)
Enable a system-wide hotkey to open Notelet from anywhere.
Note: When enabled, macOS may request Accessibility permissions.
Customize the global hotkey. Default: Cmd+Shift+N.
Press Esc to close the Notelet window.
Automatically close the window after copying text to the clipboard.
Automatically close the window after dragging text into another app.
Select the typeface used in the editor.
Adjust the editor text size.
Choose how light or bold the editor text is.
Set the background color of the Notelet window.
Set the background color of the text editor area.
Automatically switch text between black/white for best contrast against your editor background. If disabled, you can pick a custom text color.
Set the width of the Notelet window.
The window starts at this height (in lines) and grows as you type.
The window will not grow beyond this height (in lines); it will scroll instead.
Adjust padding around the editor text.
Show or hide the Pin, Expand, and Drag buttons in the top right corner of the window.
Show a drag handle icon in the titlebar. Drag from this icon to drop the current note content into another app.
Tip: You can also drag directly from shelf number icons (1, 2, 3…) to drag content from any shelf, even non-active ones.
Choose which actions appear in the bottom toolbar.
Show or hide items in the right-click context menu (Copy, Clear, History, Pin, Maximize).
Show shelf indicators and quick switching in the toolbar.
Set how many shelves are available per category.
Ask for confirmation before archiving a shelf as done.
Automatically mark the active shelf as done when you drag text into another app.
Show the number of shelves next to each category name in the category dropdown.
Add, delete, and reorder categories. Categories are intended for people (e.g. "Patrick") or projects (e.g. "Website Redesign").
Automatically capture clipboard content and save it to a dedicated category. Useful for building a clipboard history.
The name of the category where clipboard content is saved.
Automatically archive clipboard items older than this many days. Set to 0 to disable auto-archiving.
Most preferences are stored as JSON files in ~/.notelet/. Some internal state (like whether you last used popup vs maximized) is also stored there.

Use the in-app “Reset to Defaults” (if available), or remove the settings file.

Warning: This resets preferences. Your categories and shelves are stored separately in ~/.notelet/.
